STATUS:

Temporary Casual, part-time

OVERVIEW:

This position supports the Museum’s departments by creating images, moving images and videos that capture the essence of art objects in the Museum’s collection or on view in current and future exhibitions; portraying the experience of the Museum’s visitors in its space, attending public programs and participating in events.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedule, set up, coordinate and execute photo shoots of art objects, store objects, exhibition documentation, programs and events; as well as on-location photo shoots
  • Prepare and set up lighting, photography and other miscellaneous equipment for photo shoots
  • Able to exercise care and skill in handling artwork safely and expertly by Museum guidelines, if called upon to do so
  • Photograph art objects of varying sizes and surfaces; producing images of exceptional quality in line with the Museum’s brand guidelines
  • Process images, adhering to the Design Services workflow, including editing and production of images and videos, file naming and metadata, digital asset management, preparing color-accurate image files for archiving, print and electronic reproduction
  • Assist with quality assurance, post-production and records management
  • Able to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems associated with professional imaging
  • Other photo production duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum three years experience as a digital photographer in a museum, gallery or similar setting OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Extensive knowledge of studio lighting and digital photography principles and techniques
  • Expert knowledge of Photoshop, Lightroom and other editing software
  • Thorough understanding of how best to employ techniques such as panoramic stitching and macro stacking; fluent in digitization and reproduction best practices
  • Experience constructing both studio and location-specific lighting
  • Experience working with a design agency or in-house design team
  • Solid time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Innovative, creative problem solver

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, WordPress, HTML and CSS
  • Familiarity with SaaS products such as Slack, AirTable, Trello and Zapier
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations or cultural institutions
