Short-term, full time (June-November 2018)



Mingei International Museum located in Balboa Park, San Diego is undertaking a museum-wide renovation project and move of the Permanent Collection of over 26,000 objects.  The Museum is seeking an experienced Registrar to manage the day-to-day logistics of packing and moving the Collection.  Working closely with Museum staff and a professional art packing company, this individual will supervise and manage a team of art handlers to ensure the safety of objects and track objects as they are packed and moved off-site.


  • Prepare move lists, track movement of objects
  • Ensure objects are packed properly
  • Coordinate shipments from the museum to offsite storage
  • Supervise art handlers, interns, volunteers
  • Assist with other registration duties as assigned


  • Extensive knowledge of museum Registration and best practices for handling and tracking objects as set forth by the American Alliance of Museums
  • Previous experience with Collection moves, strongly preferred
  • Strong work ethic that includes a commitment to confidentiality
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and to prioritize
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to climb ladders, squat, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds
  • Previous experience with Collections Management databases; EmbARK preferred
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and SaaS products such as AirTable, Slack, or Trello
