Graphic Design Internship (Paid)

The focus of this position is to provide a graphic design student or recent graduate the opportunity to participate in a 6-12 month internship in an immersive, hands-on environment in the Design and Marketing Department at Mingei International Museum. Candidates must choose one focus of the following: branding, illustration, digital or environmental design.


  • Participate in the day-to-day design projects
  • Own, design and produce design projects end-to-end
  • Other design production duties as assigned
  • At least two, completed, published and/or installed projects for your portfolio
  • Knowledge of working with production vendors (print/environmental)
  • Knowledge of working within brand guidelines


  • Applicants must be either a recent graduate or current student studying graphic design or related field
  • Strong to working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Strong to working knowledge of Adobe Dreamweaver, WordPress, HTML and CSS (for digital)
  • Strong typographic and layout skills
  • Solid time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a time-sensitive environment
  • Innovative, creative problem-solver


  • Familiarity with SaaS products such as Slack, AirTable, Trello and Zapier
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations or cultural institutions


  • This is a part-time, temporary, non-exempt position without benefits. Salary is $12-15/hr, 20-24 hrs per week.
