Position Summary

Reporting to the Security Guard Lead, the Events Security Attendants at Mingei International Museum ensure Museum guests, staff and volunteers experience a safe and welcoming environment while they attend events at the Museum and the surrounding outdoor areas.

The Events Security Attendant’s role involves custodial maintenance of building, set-up, breakdown & sanitation of furniture before, during and after internal and rental events. This position will work closely with the Facility and Securities manager and acts a security guard during events. This position is also expected to observe and react intuitively and quickly in a public setting, while modeling a respectable presence.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of general duties in the Museum and for supporting events and programs
    • Setting and striking furniture and equipment
    • Clean or sanitize furniture and equipment as needed
    • Work with janitorial to empty trash receptacles, and clean, maintain and sanitize restrooms before, during and after events
    • Assure that all furniture and equipment are safely and properly stored when returned
  • Maintain the general security of the facility before, during and after events and assure the safety of its staff and visitors
  • Monitor building and visitor activity during public, staff, and event hours for security of exhibitions and safety of staff and guests both on the Museum floor and via CCTV system
  • Make complete rounds at the end of each event to ensure good order and security of the building.
  • Write incident reports as needed
  • Monitor the Museum’s alarm system and related equipment
  • Respond to emergencies such as fire alarms and medical emergencies
  • Monitor and promptly report any HVAC issues or water leaks
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current State of California Guard card, or ability to obtain one
  • Knowledge of proper building custodial procedures; ability to complete routine tasks in a dependable and reliable manner with minimum supervision required
  • Must have flexibility in work hours, nights and weekends are required
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current CPR, First Aid and AED certificate
  • Bilingual
  • Prior experience in a museum/cultural institution or the hospitality industry
  • Law enforcement or military experience

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to lift and move boxes, furniture and supplies up to 50 pounds

Hours Expected

  • Weekly average – 6 - 15 hours
  • Monthly average – 30 – 45 hours
  • Schedule will be primarily Monday evenings, Saturday evenings and other days as needed
  • Hours are based on the number of private events on Mingei International Museum’s calendar.

Salary

This position is a part-time nonexempt position, paid at $18.00 per hour. Benefits include paid time off, paid sick time and a 401k plan with a company donation plus match
