Calendar / Family Sunday

Sunday December 18, 2016 at 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Don’t miss our monthly event just for families. Explore the Museum’s colorful exhibitions with an interactive treasure map, roll up your sleeves for a hands-on art project, learn more with a docent tour, take home prizes and have fun!

Tinsmiths made lots of useful and beautiful items, including cups, signs, weathervanes and decorative items. Inspired by Mingei’s new exhibition, American & European Folk Art from the Museum’s Permanent Collection, join Guest Artist Brittany Dumas this December to view objects made by tinsmiths and to create your own punched metal art piece to hang or display! Brittany has worked with several San Diego arts organizations including San Diego State University’s Children’s Center and Mingei’s Art of the People outreach program. She is currently a Teaching Artist at The New Children’s Museum. Brittany is a conscious artist who seeks to perpetuate an environmental ethos throughout her artwork.

At 2:30 pm, enjoy the sounds of Camarada and meet Monette Marino on drums as she takes you on a musical journey and shares all about her craft.
