Calendar / Family Sunday
Sunday March 18, 2018 at 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Don’t miss our monthly event just for families. Explore the Museum’s colorful exhibitions with an interactive treasure map, roll up your sleeves for a hands-on art project, learn more with a docent tour, take home prizes and have fun!
Join Mingei this March for a zine-making project inspired by VOLUMINOUS ART. Led by guest artist Regan Russell, participants will experiment with various drawing materials and found images to create an illustrated 8-fold zine from a single sheet of paper.
Guest Artist Bio: Regan Russell is a San Diego, CA native. He creates art that questions and humorously jabs at pop culture, identity, and celebrity. He believes in the beauty of the absurd.
Family Gallery Spotlight: Look, listen and share ideas with a Museum Educator during a 15-minute gallery spotlight specifically geared toward children and families. Offered at 3:30pm.
At 1:00pm, join us in our Theater Gallery for a special performance of La Jolla Playhouse’s 2018 POP Tour Home of the Brave. The POP Tour brings an original production specifically crafted for young audiences that addresses themes and situations that resonate with age groups 3rd – 6th grade. Seating will be limited to 100.
At 2:30 pm, enjoy the sounds of Camarada and meet Scott Paulsen on harp, theremin and other “gestural” instruments as he takes you on a musical journey and creates an interactive musical art piece in which participants will have an opportunity to perform.
We invite and encourage families to enjoy the Museum together, to talk, laugh and move around freely. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Running and other physical activity which might harm kids or artwork is not permitted.
