Calendar / Family Sunday
Sunday May 20, 2018 at 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Don’t miss our monthly event just for families. Explore the Museum’s colorful exhibitions with an interactive treasure map, roll up your sleeves for a hands-on art project, learn more with a docent tour, take home prizes and have fun!
Join Mingei this May for a papermaking project inspired by VOLUMINOUS ART. Led by guest artist Heather Peters, participants will experiment with paper pulp, pressed flowers, and found images to create their own handmade paper.
Guest Artist Bio: Heather Peters is a papermaker and book artist residing in southern California. A recent graduate of the Mills College Book Art and Creative Writing program, she is in the process of restoring two antique Noble and Wood Hollander beaters in order to start her own papermill in the rural community of Rainbow, California. This papermill and artist studio called The Society of Hermits, aims to bring together artists that normally work in solitude, with the belief that there is a desire for meaning and shared knowledge in everyone that transcends place and physical specifics, and that by working together we can create something greater than ourselves.
Family Gallery Spotlight: Look, listen and share ideas with a Museum Educator during a 15-minute gallery spotlight specifically geared toward children and families. Offered at 1:30pm & 3:30pm.
We invite and encourage families to enjoy the Museum together, to talk, laugh and move around freely. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Running and other physical activity which might harm kids or artwork is not permitted.
