Calendar / Family Sunday
Sunday June 10, 2018 at 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Don’t miss our monthly event just for families. Explore the Museum’s colorful exhibitions with an interactive treasure map, roll up your sleeves for a hands-on art project, learn more with a docent tour, take home prizes and have fun!
Join Mingei this June for mixed-media painting inspired by WILLIAM L. HAWKINS. Led by guest artist Brittany Dumas, participants will explore Hawkins’ technique of “puffing up,” or mixing paint with different materials, and experiment with found-image collage in their paintings.
Guest Artist Bio: Brit Dumas has worked with children since 2011 facilitating art experiences from toddler through high school ages. Graduating from San Diego State University with a bachelor’s in art history, Brit studied gallery and exhibition design. She also contributed to the SDSU Children’s Center art gala and fundraiser, A is for Art, for several years. Brit offered her talents to the community by also working as a teaching artist at The New Children’s Museum, presented at the Arts Empower Mega Conference in Balboa Park, and evaluated the Mingei’s Art of the People education outreach program. Her love for media ranges over layers of acrylic paint, collage, poetry, assemblage, and aesthetics. She has worked in West Hollywood of Los Angeles as a performance artist as well. Brit’s artistry cannot be limited to one discipline as she vibrantly delves into multiple modes of expression.
Family Gallery Spotlight: Look, listen and share ideas with a Museum Educator during a 15-minute gallery spotlight specifically geared toward children and families. Offered at 1:30pm & 3:30pm.
At 2:30 pm, enjoy the sounds of Camarada and meet Scott Paulson on harp, theremin and other “gestural” instruments as he takes you on a musical journey and shares all about his craft.
We invite and encourage families to enjoy the Museum together, to talk, laugh and move around freely. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Running and other physical activity which might harm kids or artwork is not permitted.
