Calendar / Family Sunday
Sunday August 20, 2017 at 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Don’t miss our monthly event just for families. Explore the Museum’s colorful exhibitions with an interactive treasure map, roll up your sleeves for a hands-on art project, learn more with a docent tour, take home prizes and have fun!
Make a splash this August at Mingei! To celebrate the new Mexican folk art objects in the Toys & Dolls Gallery, join Guest Artist Mayra Camacho Chavez to create your own mermaid embroidery project.
Guest Artist Bio: Mayra Camacho Chavez is a fiber artist whose biggest influence has been a childhood growing up in Queretaro, México. She developed a passion for fiber arts after being taught the skills by her mother and aunts at the age of 8. Mayra’s artwork depicts the memory and nostalgia of a childhood growing up in rural Mexico. Animals, flowers, and scenes from her grandparents’ home are constant motifs throughout her work.
Family Gallery Spotlight: Look, listen and share ideas with a Museum Educator during a 15 minute gallery spotlight specifically geared toward children and families. This month’s focus will be a discussion on mermaids and other mythical creatures! Offered at 1:30pm & 3:30pm.
We invite and encourage families to enjoy the Museum together, to talk, laugh and move around freely. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Running and other physical activity which might harm kids or artwork is not permitted.

Family Sunday is made possible through a generous grant from the ResMed Foundation, and in partnership with the San Diego Zoo.
