Calendar / Family Sunday Pop Up
Sunday January 20, 2019 at 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Join us for a Family Sunday Pop-Up, hosted by Mingei International Museum! This free program for all ages includes interactive activities throughout the library, a hands-on art project, musical performances, storytelling, prizes and much more. Each month the Museum partners with local artists and organizations throughout the San Diego region to offer a diverse range of programming tied thematically to the Museum’s permanent collection.
Darumas in Japan are symbols of success, determination, and overcoming adversity. The eyes of a Daruma are usually blank. After receiving one, the owner fills in one eye when setting a goal, starting a new venture, or making a wish, then paints the other when it has been fulfilled.
Guest Artist Bio: Paul Holbach is a San Diego based Illustrative Sticker Artist who works mainly with hand drawn and painted paper stickers. Much of his work is heavily inspired by skateboard culture, street art, graffiti, music, and Japanese cartoon culture.
Mini Mingei Storytime: Look, discuss and listen during this 30-minute interactive story time intended for art-loving children and families of all ages. Offered at 1:00pm.
