Calendar / James Castle: Portrait of an Artist

Movies @Mingei

Friday July 17, 2015 at 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

This summer spend your Friday nights at the Museum. Enjoy a different award-winning documentary film each week, in addition to wine, beer, food, and extended hours in the galleries. Each week’s film(s) will focus on a different self-taught artist, some featured in the Museum’s current exhibition SELF-TAUGHT GENIUS, from the American Folk Art Museum in New York City.

Film Synopsis (James Castle: Portrait of an Artist):

Born deaf, James Castle mined the local landscape of his family’s homesteads and his own deeply private world to produce an astonishing body of drawings, collages, and constructions that eventually gained worldwide recognition.
