A Yemeni Story

Join us for a lecture by Marjorie Ransom on the Arab country of Yemen, told through the jewelry important to the economic life of the Bedouin people and tribesmen. Given to brides in the marriage contract, this jewelry served as a portable bank for the family, added to in prosperous times and sold off in times of need. Marjorie’s talk will focus on her research conducted over several years in Yemen, resulting in her book Silver Treasures from the Land of Sheba: Regional Yemeni Jewelry. The presentation will include images and a display of the traditional costume and jewelry worn by a Yemeni bride.
