Calendar / Art Excursion: Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Outliers and American Vanguard Art
Saturday February 23, 2019 at 8:00 am - 6:30 pm
Spend the day with Mingei members at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on a docent led tour of Outliers and American Vanguard Art, the first major exhibition to explore key moments in American art history when avant-garde artists and outliers intersected. The exhibition illustrates how the early history of American modernism championed folk art and self-taught artists before the ascendance of abstract expressionism, and shows the continued impact of outlier practices on contemporary art.
The exhibition features over 250 works in a range of media by more than 80 self-taught and trained artists such as Henry Darger, Judith Scott and Bill Traylor.
Enjoy lunch and the afternoon at LACMA on your own before boarding for bus happy hour on the way back to San Diego!
Includes: Transportation in chartered coach; admission fees; guided tours; refreshments on the bus and a tax-deductible contribution to Mingei International Museum. Lunch is on one’s own.
Pick-ups: Balboa Park and Carlsbad
