Kanthas of Bengal
Friday October 27, 2017 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Kanthas are a unique form of stitched and embroidered Indian textile crafted by women from old cast-off saris and men’s trousers. Made for a variety of purposes, they range from purse size to large bedcovers and exhibit a wide variety of motifs. Celebrate the opening of KANTHA – Recycled and Embroidered Textiles of Bengal with this special lecture presented by John Gillow. Author, lecturer, traveler and collector, Gillow has spent over 40 years collecting and researching the folk textiles of Asia and Africa, and is a contributing author to the Museum’s exhibition catalog.
