In conjunction with Mingei’s current Japanese exhibitions, Professor Susan Hasegawa from San Diego City College will present a talk on the development and evolution of the Nikkei (Japanese American) community in San Diego. The presentation will highlight common Japanese American experiences in popular culture including food, faith and socio-cultural activities.  It will also explore the impact of incarceration during World War II and the rebuilding of ethnic community institutions in the post-war period.
