Artistic Textiles for Fashion and Interiors in Mid-Century America
Thursday May 30, 2019 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Leigh Wishner, Museum Coordinator at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Museum in Los Angeles, will illustrate the promotion of textiles, both commercial and artisanal, in mid-century American museums. During this period, museums and galleries actively sought and displayed exceptional design in fabrics for apparel and interiors; providing textile artists and manufacturers visibility and prestige within the market. The symbiotic relationship between museums and textile enterprises reinforced a fundamental concept: artistry belongs in the wardrobes and homes of all Americans.
The event will be held in the Shiley Theater on the 9th floor of the Library, adjacent to the Art Gallery. The Art Gallery will open an hour earlier than normal for program attendees (1:00-7:00pm).
