Mingei International Museum would like to invite you to a free professional development session held at Joyner Elementary. This workshop is geared towards 3rd-5th grade but can be adapted to other grade levels.
Join us and learn polymer clay bead making in a classroom setting. Learn to build art studio practice with students. Teachers will learn to condition polymer clay, teardrop blending, caning, knot tying for jewelry with students. The lesson is inspired by the Mingei’s extensive bead and jewelry collection which could be found online at www.mingei.org/collections
Educators will learn how to foster a safe creative environment as they explore art with students, while challenging them to build on their polymer clay knowledge and jewelry making skills. Educators will also learn how to apply National Visual Art Standards while focusing on design and composition. In addition, all attending will receive FREE art materials for their classroom.
The session and opportunity will include:

• Development of inquiry and critical thinking skills based on strategies that focus on art as a vehicle for student
• Authentic hands-on art project and processes, and tips on how to implement and adapt for your classroom
• An opportunity to schedule a Mingei Away classroom visit at no cost
