Indigo is one of the oldest dyeing traditions in textile design, found in many cultures across the globe, and represented in the kimonos, door hangings and mattress covers showcased in our exhibition, MINGEI OF JAPAN. Sarah Myriam Winston, resident artist in The Collectors’ Gallery, harnesses the beauty of this plant’s deep blue pigment and other natural dyes in her gorgeous weavings. Using silk, linen, hemp, tencel, cotton, and bamboo fibers, Sarah carefully hand weaves dyed garments, scarves and accessories. Her blending of natural elements and age-old tradition results in a textile that is unique, lasting and alive. Join us to meet the artist and shop her latest works.
