Calendar / Summer by Design

This summer Mingei International Museum will explore connections between the exhibition KANBAN—Traditional Shop Signs of Japan and contemporary approaches to signage, design and advertising. Hear from featured players in the field reflecting on and discussing signage and design through the lens of their own expertise. Come early for a complimentary happy hour at 5pm, with beer, wine and snacks. The program will begin at 6pm, seating is limited.

Typography (program begins at 6pm): Patricia Cue, Associate Professor in Graphic Design at SDSU will lead a discussion on typography, looking at both traditional and contemporary approaches to lettering.  Dr. Hiroko Johnson, Professor Emeritus at SDSU will present on traditional kanji script as seen in the Museum’s exhibition.  Following, Phoebe and Roxy from San Diego Letters will discuss their work and love of letters.
