Denmark and The Netherlands Art Excursion | Mingei International Museum

Get your bags ready! We’re thrilled to invite you to take part in Mingei International Museum’s first trip to Copenhagen & Amsterdam, with special company Executive Director & CEO, Rob Sidner and Architect, Jennifer Luce. The trip will celebrate the reopening of the Museum, visiting some of the world-class Danish and Dutch designers involved in the transformation.

Taking advantage of the beautiful spring weather in both cities, the tour will take place June 6–16, 2022 (flying out of San Diego June 5) and focus on the interplay between old and new Danish and Dutch craft and design.

Copenhagen, considered the cultural center of Denmark, is sure to live up to its name! Travelers will visit Davids Sampling, Christian Ludvig David’s remarkable collection of Islamic art and a selection 17th and 18th Century art; the showrooms of leading interior designers Dinesen, who also created the floors in the new Museum and the workshops of Fritz Hansen, the acclaimed Danish furniture designer responsible for many iconic Danish Designs in the 1950s.

Travelers will also visit the renowned Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Beautifully situated on the Sound north of Copenhagen with views across to Sweden, the museum has an extensive collection of modern and contemporary art, dating from World War II to the present day.

Amsterdam has an equally rich history of craft and design, and our time in the city will include a visit to the Rijksmuseum, one of Europe’s most prominent museums with over 1 million works of art and design in the collections. We will also make our way into the rural north of the Netherlands to visit the studio and farm of Claudy Jongstra, the designer of one of Mingei’s new textile installations.

It goes without saying that our tour will also include a sampling of delicious food and wine that Copenhagen and Amsterdam have to offer!
