August 2022 Family Sunday | Mingei International Museum

Design your own fabric creation with Chicana fashion designer Claudia Biezunski-Rodriguez. We will be using donated and recycled fabric scraps to create slow fashion wallets from scratch. Each participant will be given two fabrics scraps, a piece of thread, a sewing needle and a button. We will stitch the fabric scraps together using a needle and thread, and then we will add a small button to the top half of the fabric.

Chicana fashion designer, Claudia Biezunski-Rodriguez, was introduced to sewing at a very young age by her immigrant parents. Claudia’s father owned a denim factory in San Fernando, CA, and her stay-at-home mother sewed all the clothing for Claudia and her two brothers and three sisters. Once she started sewing, she couldn’t stop. She created one-of-a-kind handbags and other accessories for her friends and family. Today, you will find Claudia sewing one-of-a-kind clothing & accessories using reclaimed fabrics for women and men in the vibrant neighborhood of Barrio Logan in San Diego, CA. The name of her store is Sew Loka and you can visit her in person at 2113 Logan Avenue or online at sewloka.com
