January 2022 Family Sunday | Mingei International Museum

Visit Mingei for all kinds of family fun! Explore the Museum in new ways by going on an art treasure hunt or signing up for an art-making workshop. Don't forget admission is free for anyone who takes part!

This month, bring in the New Year with luck and good fortune! Join us as we create a Daruma doll inspired by the Japanese traditional dolls that symbolize perseverance and luck. Japanese Daruma dolls, often red, rounded, and limbless figures, are used for wishing. The process is simple: having a wish or goal in mind, paint in one eye, work towards that wish or goal every day, and, when the dream is achieved, paint in the second eye. Using traditional clay, paint and some techniques we will learn along the way, we can make the doll of our dreams.

As a further safety measure, we will be scaling back our workshop sizes and offering sign-ups for the workshops online. Spaces are very limited. Please click on a workshop time below to register.

Family Sunday is made possible through a generous grant from the ResMed Foundation and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Check here for more family-friendly art projects.
