July 2024 Family Sunday | Mingei International Museum

Join us this month to explore photo transferring with artist Shirin Towfiq. Towfiq is an interdisciplinary artist specializing in installation, sculptural photography, textiles, and printmaking. Drawing from her background as a second-generation Iranian refugee, her work explores the complexities of belonging and placemaking through archival research and intergenerational communication. She focuses on the everyday practices and visual culture of migrants, delving into cultural memory, history, and temporality. You may recognize her from her installation, Threaded Journeys, which is currently on view in Mingei’s gallery.

During this workshop quests will be cutting out symbols, shapes, and images to create artworks of our own collaged magic carpets using an alternative photographic transfer technique.

Registration is recommended and walk-ups are welcome if space is available. Please use the links below to sign up for a Family Sunday workshop. Space is limited. If the pre-registration slots are fully booked, walk-ins are still welcome.

Family Sunday is made possible through a generous grant from the ResMed Foundation.
