Mini Mingei | Mingei International Museum

Our littlest visitors and their families are invited to take part in our Bilingual Storytime with mixed media artist, photographer, and storyteller Astrid Alvarado León. Celebrate Día de los Muertos at Mingei as we share more about the tradition through storytelling and making! Mini Mingei is perfect for parents, grandparents and caregivers with children ages 2–5.

This program is free for children and $7 per adult. Purchase includes admission to the Museum galleries. No pre-registration is required. Arrive a little before 10am to purchase tickets and meet us by the Education Center.

And now our guest artist would love to introduce herself!

Dear reader,

Funny meeting this way. My name is Astrid Alvarado León. I posses a natural curiosity for meeting strangers and forming connections. I am an artist and avid traveler on a self-imposed mission to catch and share moments of honesty and vulnerability. I like to call it, capturing humans for humanity’s sake! _ _ I strongly believe in the power of art, be it though culture, music, food, or conversation, to foster social justice and continuously lift our diverse communities. My multiracial background has taught me how to be open minded, patient, and strong. For this reason I understand the importance of listening to others’ personal stories and the power of storytelling. _ _ My inspiration revolves around humans and the stories they carry. _ _ In terms of media, I like to experiment with different textures, funky materials, and even unconventional tools. My paintings are composed of recycled nail polish, Chinese ink, acrylic and oil paint, ice, flowers and plants, just to name a few! I enjoy the process of creating something new, it’s liberating and cathartic. I wish to share this experience and knowledge with others.
