Survivors of Torture, International's Executive Director Etleva Bejko presents an overview of the life-changing work of her San Diego organization that has helped thousands of torture survivors from over 100 countries recover, rebuild, and restart lives in our community over its 26-year history. SURVIVORS offers critical mental health, medical, and asylum support services to those arriving in the San Diego community who would otherwise be without government or social services necessary for basic life needs while they traverse a complex and ever-changing immigration system. SURVIVORS also provides its clients with individual and group programs such as “Healing Club” and "Art Therapy" to assist in their unique journeys to stability and self-sufficiency.

About Etleva Bejko

Etleva Bejko, Executive Director at Survivors of Torture, International (SURVIVORS), is a highly respected immigration services leader with over 20 years of experience in the field. Being a native of Albania, the arrival of ethnic Albanians fleeing Kosovo due to ethnic cleansing in the late ‘90s presented her with the first opportunity to assist the refugee community in San Diego. Etleva began working with the Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement team in 1999. This role led her to join the Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) in 2005 and progress in her responsibilities, most recently as the Director of Refugee Services. Etleva joined the team at SURVIVORS in September 2022 and has since demonstrated tremendous expertise and leadership in guiding the organization's mission and initiatives.
