Coffee and Conversations | Mingei International Museum

The best way to describe the creations of milliner Diana Cavagnaro is that they are a work of art that happens to be worn on your head. Diana Cavagnaro will walk you through her 30 years of hat making including her work with the Old Globe Theater in San Diego. The art of millinery is primarily done by hand and Diana will give you an overview of the different materials used for making hats and the embellishments used to finish the work. She has made thousands of hats since embarking on this journey!

Diana has designed hats for people around the world. She teaches at her Alpine Hat Studio and at San Diego Mesa College. Three of her millenary creations were selected for the 2019 London Hat Week exhibition. Her work has been featured locally in Ranch & Coast Magazine and Fine Magazine and viewed internationally in L’OUMO Vogue, Elle Serbia, Elegant, and Hunger Magazine. Recently, Diana’s hats were seen in several Fashion Films at the La Jolla Fashion Film Festival and were nominated for Best Accessories.

Diana is also a journalist and for the past 20 years, she has written for the San Diego Downtown News, La Jolla Village News, and numerous other newspapers and magazines.
