Coffee and Conversations | Mingei International Museum

In this talk, book artist Sibyl Rubottom will introduce the richly varied realm of artists books, also known as book arts, and the methods used to create these versatile artworks. She will also explore the process of envisioning an artist book and explain the techniques used to fabricate the various components involved.

Sibyl will share her love of letterpress and printmaking and recap the history of the Athenaeum Art Center in Logan Heights where she is the Manager of its well-equipped Print Studio.

About Sibyl

Sibyl has devoted herself to artist books for the last 25 years. Among her earliest books were alphabet books on a variety of themes, with a selection of these and other artist books will be shown during the session. Her books are held in numerous collections, including the Library of Congress, the Thomas J. Watson Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, John Hay Library at Brown University, Haas Arts Special Collection at Yale University, Mandeville Special Collections at UCSD, Malcolm A. Love Library at SDSU and the Athenaeum Artists Book Collection.
