San Diego Design Week & Jack in the Box Present | Mingei International Museum

San Diego Design Week (SDDW) presents a panel discussion featuring the Marketing and Design Team from Jack in the Box, a group led by BIPOC women designers. During this event, the panelists will delve into their personal journeys of resilience within the marketing and design field.

They bring with them a strong sense of cultural representation, and they will generously share their extensive expertise, experiences in overcoming challenges, and invaluable insights that have propelled them to their current roles at Jack in the Box.

This event holds immense value for students, aspiring graphic designers, and anyone contemplating a transition into creative professions.

More About SDDW

San Diego Design Week is a community event presented by Design Forward Alliance (DFA) and Mingei International Museum and led by a team of advisors and community partners that represent the diverse design disciplines of the San Diego-Tijuana region. Since its first event in 2020, San Diego Design Week has been a celebration showcasing the region’s binational, multicultural, and interdisciplinary design community through installations, charrettes, workshops, and presentations.

In 2023, SDDW is pivoting to prepare for being featured as the Experience Signature Event for World Design Capital 2024: 7 days of curated programs on both sides of the border at selected anchor spaces. SDDW will showcase a community-driven program across all design disciplines, providing a forum for connection and the generation of impactful ideas through human-centered design.

Meet the Panelists

Kiana Henderson

Hi there! My name is Kiana, but I also go by Setenza online! I'm an illustrator and graphic designer from San Diego, where I attended San Diego State University and obtained my BA in Graphic Design. Believe it or not, video games have been a major inspiration for me. They've fueled my creative drive to create fun content featuring my unique characters and fan art. Even though I enjoy gaming, it's more of a fun hobby than an actual career choice. Prior to my time at Jack in the Box, I worked as a freelancer. I also created a children's book, started a small non-profit, and a small apparel business. Currently, I'm working towards my master's degree in business administration. I love having the opportunity to be expressive in my designs so working at Jack in the Box has given me the opportunity to flex my creative muscles!

Amanda Alcantara

Designer. Professional doodler. Hufflepuff. I am San Diego born, bred, and currently based where I’ve established my career in the creative sector of the food and beverage industry as well as working as a freelancer since graduating college. I’m a proud alum of my alma mater, Cal Poly Pomona, where I received a BFA in Graphic Design with a minor in Art History. GO BRONCOS! I’m so grateful to have worked with several non-profits and orgs in the San Diego area that connect me to my hometown community and currently work as a part of the Creative Services team at Jack in the Box Inc.

Marilee Santos

Hey there! My name is Marilee, Mari for short. San Diego has always been my home and it’s only fitting that I received my BFA in Graphic Design from SDSU. Go Aztecs! By day, I’m the Creative Design Manager at Jack in the Box who enjoys designing and staring at delicious food all day. By morning, day and night, I’m a wife and Mom to 3 hungry kids and a 2-year-old Goldendoodle. Balancing creativity and parenthood is always an adventure, but my family and design team bring endless inspiration to my work and life.

Megan Lee

Hi, I'm Megan, a graphic designer with a passion for art and visual communication. I'm a graduate of the California College of the Arts in San Francisco, where I honed my artistic skills and gained a deep appreciation for design. Before joining the Jack in the Box creative team, I’ve had the privilege of working with companies like Men's Wearhouse and Sam's Club. Beyond my professional pursuits, you'll often find me immersed in my two favorite hobbies – drawing, knitting, and watching too much TV.
