Beads are central to the lives of all African people and are an integral part of a multilayered communication system across cultural communities. Beaded objects and beaded adornment reflect the many contrasting lifestyles and cultural heritage of African societies, a characteristic more pronounced throughout this continent than in any other part of the world.
