JoAnn Tanzer was Professor Emerita of Art at San Diego State University, where she developed a degree program in Enameling. She also helped to establish the Enamel Guild: West and Studio Five of San Diego. She studied in India as a Fulbright Scholar, visited the USSR as a guest of the Artists’ Union at the Palanga Symposium of Enamels and was invited to give a series of lectures and workshops in Japan. She had exhibitions in Tokyo, Japan, Limoges, France, Coberg, Germany and Barcelona Spain as well as in many national and international juried and invitational exhibitions. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts, Moscow, Russia; Limoges Enamel Museum, Limoges, France; Hiroshima City Museum, Hiroshima, Japan and Mingei International Museum.

Enamel painter Joann Tanzer says, “The idiom I use is energetic and compulsive. The forthright pull of the surface reflection has a much needed shine that I respond to with vigor.”
