Who We Are

Founded in 1978, Mingei International Museum collects, preserves and exhibits “art of the world, art of the people,” including folk art, craft, and design from all eras and cultures. Located in San Diego’s iconic Balboa Park, our highly respected Museum offers stunning exhibitions and diverse educational programs to more than 200,000 visitors each year. The Museum is a nonprofit organization.

Position Description

Reporting to the Creative Director, the Content Producer serves as a steward of the Museum’s voice, creates and publishes digital content for social media and other platforms, contributes to the Museum’s overall marketing strategy, and provides editing and copywriting support. An ideal candidate is an excellent technical and creative writer, innovative content creator, influential communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills, has a creative spark, impeccable attention to detail, and the ability to collaboratively manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Design team on content development and marketing strategies
  • Plan, organize, manage, and maintain the Museum’s editorial calendar
    • Create, copywrite/edit, publish, and distribute content on multiple platforms including monthly emails (Mailchimp), website, blog, social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok), and Bloomberg Connects app
    • Manage quarterly production and content creation of our Communiqué publication
  • Proofread copy for email newsletters, articles, website event listings, exhibition copy from curators, and other projects to ensure communications align with the Museum's brand and voice
  • Support media relations efforts including copywriting press releases, handling image and media requests, managing media database, and tracking Mingei-related coverage
  • Manage digital ads, website data, and track content statistics and ROI on ad spends
  • Coordinate content co-collaboration with organization partners
  • Support fundraising, education, and development goals through content marketing
  • Represent the Museum during press events, Balboa Park marketing meetings, San Diego Museum Council meetings, and other opportunities as needed
  • Minor production tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to develop and disseminate messaging across multiple platforms for different audiences
  • Strict attention to detail, accuracy, and quality of work
  • Creative, innovative approach to communications and problem-solving
  • Solid time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work and manage projects independently while also being able to develop and critique creative work in a collaborative environment
  • Minimum of two to three years of related experience in communications, public relations, and copyediting
  • Facility with social media platforms
  • Experience working with SaaS products such as MailChimp, G Suite, Slack, Airtable (or similar project management software)
  • Working knowledge of website and app management software (Craft, Bloomberg Connects, etc.)
  • Basic working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite for social media posts and support of content design
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of HTML and app maintenance
  • Experience working with museums or other non-profits
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and editing in Spanish

Salary

The position is a full-time, non exempt position, typically working 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday on location in Balboa Park, with the option to work from home one day a week. The position pays $28.00 per hour or approximately $54,600 per year. Benefits include paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee, a 401k plan with a company match, and generous paid time off.
