Admission

The Entry Level is free for all, always. The Exhibitions Level requires admission for those 18 years and older. A ticket is required for all visitors to access the Exhibitions Level.

Admission is free for all on the third Tuesday of every month.

Purchase Tickets

Tickets may be purchased ahead of time online or upon arrival at the front desk located near the Alcazar Garden entrance.

Our Exhibitions Level is closed until Saturday, April 5.
Tickets are not required to visit Mingei's Entry Level.

Directions & Parking

We are located in Balboa Park at 1439 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101. See Balboa Park Map for available parking, tram and museum locations with the park.

Wheelchair Accessibility

Wheelchair users can enter the building through both Alcazar Garden and Plaza de Panama entrances. Elevators are available to access the Exhibitions Level and Lower Level.

The Museum has two wheelchairs available for check out. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and are only to be used inside the Museum. Please inquire about availability at the Admissions Desk.

The nearest ADA parking spots are available in the Alcazar parking lot or the Spreckels Organ Pavilion parking lot.

Museum Etiquette

Visitors must keep 2ft of distance away from the art at all times.

Sketching is welcome in the galleries, but please use pencils only. No wet media, including pens or markers, are allowed.

Refrain from leaning, sitting, or placing objects on walls and/or cases.

Photography Guidelines

Personal photography is allowed in the galleries. Flash photography, tripods, and selfie sticks are not permitted. Do not photograph staff or visitors without their consent.

Bags and Beverages

Bags and other items larger than 12” x 16” must be left in our cloakroom.

Beverages are not allowed on the Exhibitions Level.

Free Tuesdays

Every Balboa Park museum offers free general admission on a rotating basis each month to residents of the City and County of San Diego. As part of this program, Mingei offers free admission to everyone every third Tuesday of the month. No ID verification is required.

Museums for All

As part of the nationwide program, Museums for All, Mingei offers free admission for those who present an EBT, SNAP, or WIC card.

Blue Star Museum

Mingei is a Blue Star Museum, providing free museum admission to active-duty military personnel and their families from Armed Forces Day to Labor Day.

Balboa Park Explorer Pass

Mingei participates in the Balboa Park Explorer Pass program—one pass to up to 16 museums in the Balboa Park Cultural District. Visit with day, week, or annual passes for an affordable option to discover more museum experiences. Learn more at Explorer.BalboaPark.org
