Art Donations | Mingei International Museum

More Information

We’re honored that you would consider us as a home for your collection!

It is an exciting time at Mingei to be sure, and we are grateful for your enthusiasm and support, but there is still much work to be done before we can receive art donations. Please send the following information, as best you can, for each item being offered to Emily Brown ( ):

  • Object/Title
  • Maker/Artist (if known)
  • Medium (material the artwork is made of)
  • Age of object
  • Provenance information (description/identification, origin, culture, previous ownership)
  • Clear/legible photos of the artwork being offered, with detail shots if necessary, especially if there are condition issues, artist signatures, marks, etc. (If you don’t have a camera, perhaps a friend or family member might be able to lend you theirs.)
  • Anything thing else you can share about the object’s history, such as whether it’s been publicly exhibited or if it’s undergone conservation treatment

Our curatorial team reviews donations by committee. We are unable to begin reviewing artwork until Spring of 2022, after the collection is fully reinstalled in permanent storage and we can assess our capacity for new acquisitions. If this time frame doesn't work for you, please let me know. We understand if you decide to pursue other options.

As a reminder, we are unable to provide estimates as to the monetary value of an object. For that, we suggest contacting an appraiser. The American Society of Appraisers is a good resource for finding someone with the appropriate expertise.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
