October 2024 Family Sunday | Mingei International Museum

This month, Family Sunday will be led by San Diego-based artist Michael Upton, whose work spans across sculpture, printmaking, homewares, painting, and building design. Upton’s studio embraces a fluid approach, allowing him to explore a wide range of genres and mediums.

In this workshop, participants will design and cast their own house guardian sculptures using plaster, inspired by Upton's creative process. These sculptures, rooted in his passion for folk art, serve as symbolic protectors, watching over and caring for the spaces we inhabit.

Registration for the 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, and 2 PM workshops will open on Monday, October 21st.

Registration is recommended and walk-ups are welcome if space is available. Please use the links below to sign up for a Family Sunday workshop. Space is limited. If the pre-registration slots are fully booked, walk-ins are still welcome.

Family Sunday is made possible through a generous grant from the ResMed Foundation.
