Inspired by the traditional fishing nets and nautical knots featured in To Catch a Fish, our newest Together workshop series, Knot Together, explores the art of macramé. The series is led by Sitoë Thiam, a fiber artist and mechanical engineer who bridges technical precision with organic expression. As the founder of Unknot, a design studio specializing in knotting and weaving, she brings a unique interdisciplinary perspective to the world of fiber arts.
Knotted Treasure Pendant | Friday, October 9 | 5-7pm In October, discover the art of the miniature! Participants will transform small, personal talismans like river stones, sea glass, or cherished keepsakes into delicate, wearable sculptures. By mastering the rhythmic craft of the micro-net, you will learn to encapsulate these treasures in a custom mesh by adjusting density and form to suit each unique object. Whether finished with a strand of beads or left in its purest corded form, your creation becomes a portable piece of folk art.
The Together series at Mingei invites makers of all skill levels to come together and create in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Past iterations—Sew Together, Weave Together, Dye Together, Stitch Together, and Clay Together—explore a variety of craft techniques while emphasizing collaboration, experimentation, and hands-on learning. Each workshop encourages participants to connect with materials, try new skills, and enjoy the process of making together.
