Inspired by the varied stitching techniques featured in Fashioning An Icon: Virgin of Guadalupe Imagery in Textile Design, join us for our monthly stitching self-guided workshop held at the George Nakashima table in Mingei's Founders Gallery. All skill levels are welcome!
August’s project will be Mixe-inspired stitching. Embroidery from the Ayuukjä’äy or Mixe community reflects key aspects of their cosmology and illustrates the spiritual connection the Ayuukjä’äy people have to Earth.
Although the showcased technique is inspired by their craft, the workshop is meant only for educational purposes to celebrate the art of the community. We will be using a modified running stitch for our project.
