Wear Your Story Workshop | Mingei International Museum

Join exhibiting artist Claudia Rodriguez-Biezunski, featured in Fashioning an Icon: Virgin of Guadalupe Imagery in Textile Design and founder of Sew Loka, a slow fashion clothing brand in San Diego, for a hands-on workshop that blends personal storytelling with sustainable fashion.

Rooted in her practice of using reclaimed materials and championing slow fashion, Claudia will guide participants through a reflective process to identify meaningful life moments, core values, or bold personal statements. These reflections will be transformed into custom textile patches using fabric paint markers, embroidery thread, recycled and vintage fabrics, and a variety of embellishment techniques—including both hand stitching and machine sewing.   Participants will design and apply their patches to a jacket of their choice, creating a one-of-a-kind, wearable artwork that speaks to their personal narrative.

Please bring your own jacket to the workshop. We encourage you to choose something from your closet or shop second-hand to stay true to the ethos of slow fashion.
