San Diego People of Color Quilt Guild

The San Diego People of Color Quilt Guild, founded in February 1997, preserves the tradition of quilting as an art form and a means of storytelling and historical documentation. Since 1998, they have hosted annual quilt shows in February to honor Black History Month, and in 2022, they launched a Juneteenth show to further share cultural history through textile arts.

As the only predominantly African American quilt guild in San Diego County, the San Diego People of Color Quilt Guild highlights African and African American influences in quilting, known for our use of bold colors and African-inspired patterns. Members have exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally, and have offered educational presentations at various events.

"Presenting our work at Mingei honors our founders’ vision and allows us to share our artistry and heritage with a wider audience." — San Diego People of Color Quilt Guild
