To honor Día de los Muertos we collaborated with Sherman Heights Community Center and local artists Lidia Martinez and Francisco Soto to create an altar. Día de los Muertos Ofrenda: Honoring Athletes Presented by Sherman Heights Community Center, this year’s Día de los Muertos ofrenda draws inspiration from the vibrant floral structures found in cemeteries throughout Michoacán and Oaxaca. These arches and house-like forms serve as symbolic gateways, welcoming the souls of loved ones as they return to the world of the living.
This year’s ofrenda honors athletes across a range of sports, including baseball, boxing, football, and soccer. Through flowers, color, and traditional Día de los Muertos symbolism, the installation celebrates the passions and legacies of athletes, creating a space for remembrance, reflection, and community.

For more than 28 years the community center has celebrated Día de los Muertos with onsite community altars, craft workshops, festivities, neighborhood altars, a candle-light procession and other programs and services.
