Dear Friend,

At Mingei, we believe art is most meaningful when it creates connection—between people, cultures, ideas, and generations. At the heart of this work is our commitment to artists. We aim to champion working artists, especially those evolving a craft tradition, through collaboration and storytelling that connects their work with the community.

This year, India Thompson’s woven reed sculptures delighted visitors as they explored her whimsical domestic scenes in Looks Like Home. The stunning glasswork in Clearly Indigenous showcased the work of Indigenous artists, fusing their heritage with modern glassmaking. To Catch a Fish includes the work of contemporary artists Marianne Nicolson, Aidelen Montoya, and Robert Lang, all emphasizing the relationship between people and fish.

We invite you to support the Museum’s investment in living artists by making a gift to the 2026 Annual Appeal campaign.

Mingei featured more than 120 artists in the most recent year’s exhibitions. Beyond the galleries, local artists and makers share their knowledge and practices through workshops, lectures, and programs that invite people of all ages to celebrate creativity. Our popular store, Shop Mingei, provides a platform for makers to share their craft and sell their work, featuring 33 local artists, and many others from across 35 states and 48 countries.

Mingei is a hub in the San Diego arts ecosystem, connecting creatives and audiences, and ensuring that craft remains a vital part of the conversation.

Your donation will help Mingei continue to honor our mission and traditions while supporting local artists and propelling the future of craft forward.

A gift to the 2026 Annual Appeal will help Mingei continue to collaborate with artists through dynamic exhibitions and innovative programming. Where would we be without artists? Your support helps ensure that Mingei is a place where they can share their work, their perspective, and inspire the next generation of makers.

On behalf of Mingei’s board, staff, and volunteers, thank you for believing in the power of the arts and helping us to build a Museum where creativity, connection, and belonging are at the center of the experience.

With gratitude,

Jessica Hanson York
