Clearly Indigenous Members' Reception | Mingei International Museum

Join us for a day of community and craft as we celebrate the opening of Mingei’s newest exhibition, Clearly Indigenous: Native Visions Reimagined in Glass.  The day will begin with a special morning Members’ Reception featuring complimentary coffee and tea, followed by a Community Day with free admission to the Museum throughout the day. Please note that the morning reception is by invitation only, and RSVP is required.

The morning reception will feature the resonant beauty of Wiyapu Bird Singing, an ancestral Kumeyaay tradition that brings the stories of this land to life through a rhythmic cycle of song and rhythm. The performance will run from 10:15-10:45am.

Consider staying after the Members' Reception for a special Art Break lecture with exhibiting artist Dan Friday, a separate RSVP is required and space is limited. There will be a chance to observe the intricate skill of local Kumeyaay maker Eva Salazar as she demonstrates the timeless, patient craft of basket weaving, unravelling the techniques passed down through generations. There will also be another Wiyapu Bird singing performance at 12:15pm.
